Blame the Night Elves

I've been doing a little bit of archaeology again after what must be at least a 6 month hiatus. We'll see how long it lasts, but I want the Tol'vir pet and mount. Anyways, I wasn't the only one this particular night:

So yeah. On behalf of the night elves, I apologize for anyone doing archaeology. Though if it makes you feel any better it's not like us night elves get a break or anything because its just as bad for us.

Motivation to tank again

I haven't tanked since ICC, but you know what? This bear sleeping bag just might inspire me to do so.

Created by Eiko Ishizawa, I am so amused by this bear sleeping bag!

This pic just cracks me up:

This site notes "Please be warned that, according to the artist, it is not his responsibility if a wild bear attacks you, or some silly hunter hunts you down". Lawl.

At least I have Chuck & Beans

I've been crazy busy at work, which won't die down for another two weeks. AND I get to work all weekend! Hooray! /sarcasm. Starting next week I am traveling for work, to North Carolina, like I did for a good part of last year with my old firm. Except now I'm flying to NC from Seattle as opposed to Chicago. Sigh. I may have to be careful with this new client to make sure I'm not too sarcastic:

So I barely got to participate in Arathi Basin weekend last weekend, and I'm not sure how much I'll get to do of Eye weekend this weekend. This makes me sad.

I do hope to have enough time on Saturday to gather up some more coins for the Lunar Festival on my alt. Rades and I are trading a bunch of lanterns between our guilds so we can have the alliance and horde lanterns. We're both small 10 man guilds and surprisingly we're going to be trading 6-8 lanterns. I'm not sure if they'll end up having similar faction specific boe pets for future holidays, but I suggest you find a counterpart guild to trade with!

One more quick Chuck & Beans comic (thank goodness I still have Chuck & Beans so I can still do a short yet lame post despite being so crazy busy that I am running around like a chicken with its head cut off).

So mid February is my five year mark of playing WoW. Crazy. Maybe I can write a bit more about that in a post later. But remember when you were first playing and leveling? You just couldn't stop? I'm sure I took a "sick" day or two to play as well.

Have we matured? Has our time in the game matured? Has the game itself matured? Probably a combination of all three, but either way, a part of me misses having this feeling in WoW.

Anatomy of a Left Claw raid

When I think about our guild raids, there are certain things that are just always going to happen. Kal mentioned the first two items the other week, so I thought I'd expound on those and add a couple of others.

1. Jess is going to break CC: Hee hee. It's funny because its true.

2. K is going to say wait!: Grrr! But yes, this is also funny because its true. I don't know... it's like I consider the raid ready check as a pre ready check to my verbal cue. There is bound to be at least one attempt when the tanks start running in and I yell out on vent, "Oh.... wait!!!!!!" because I forgot something. For the record though I don't think I did this last night, did I?

3. Kal is going to have an opinion: More specifically a strong opinion on something and call it a total screwjob. He's so cute when he gets worked up on something. Let me just say two words. Hunter focus.

4. Nikolai is going to allude to Nkm in a sexually inappropriate way: Nikolai needs to come back to raiding with us soon because there are just so many times when there is the perfect opportunity for a sexually tinged comment in raid and without him, there is just this big empty void.

5. There will be mention of green wands: And associated crying. Poor casters. I am a bit afraid of what is going to happen when that epic wand drops. It's going to be an all out brawl!

6. Bracers of the Dark Pool will drop: We've had like 5 or 6 Bracers of the Dark Pool drop off trash. It's gotten to be sort of funny. I think one night we even had them drop twice.

7. Jess will ask Buns to SS resurrect someone after a death: Even though Buns can't do that until the next patch. Er...

8. K will complain about having no mana: And Lorosia will rub it in. Do the rest of you guys have pallys who taunt you, just absolutely TAUNT you about their mana? I do. /points at Lorosia. Grrr...

9. Darc and Eregon will talk shop: Not only do Darc and Eregon work together IRL, but this is a boss - employee relationship! I find it amusing and quite intriguing that they raid together. If we're up late one night, there will be talk like "You better not call in sick tomorrow!" that makes me giggle. I think Darc should include Eregon's tanking performance in his annual review.

10. Chanti will cycle through his sayings: I love that Chanti has a rotation of sayings that he cycles through when he pulls. They include "Oh look, I haz a frisbee!", "Leeroy Jenkins!", "Bad things are going to happen, don't let them happen to you!" What else does he say? Hmmm they've slipped my mind...

11. We have to deal with a defective Earth Shield: If Jess' shammy Makawee is healing, we have to put up with a less than optimal earth shield. It's the funniest thing but Maka's earth shield spins around your ankles, not your waist. I've tried shimmying my hips in a hula-hoop fashion to see if I could move it up, but to no avail. I guess this earth shield could protect us against ankle biting gnome bosses?

12. We will screw up the Cauldron: We learned the cauldron a couple of weeks ago and honest to goodness, there's bound to be confusion when it goes down. It'll stay up too long and we have to go through the "Who didn't take a flask?", "Oh, I took one before", "Oops, I didn't mean to take one", "Ok take an extra one and keep it for later" each time. EACH TIME.

Charlie Sheen... demonology lock?

Isn't it just crazy how much press Charlie Sheen and his crazy antics are getting? I mean its like top news on the morning news shows... with stories on CNN and 20/20. Insanity. I mean isn't there more important news out there?

Anyways, because its hard to not hear or read stuff about the guy, I came across two interesting quotes from him. In referring to Warner Bros. and CBS:

"They're trying to destroy my family, so I take great umbrage with that. And defeat is not an option. They picked a fight with a warlock."

My little pink pigtailed gnome lock Kimchee just raised an eyebrow. Cutely, of course. You think he's affliction, destro, or demonology? Demonology I thinks. Apparently he likes us trees though:

"I think we should do my book, incidentally entitled the best title of all time - 'Apocalypse ME: The Jaws of Life.' I'm going to sell this thing through Amazon and through Kindle. That way we save a bunch of trees. Because they give us our oxygen, face it, and we love trees. We must keep as many around as we can. Must maybe even marry a tree! Marry a tree because the other types of marriage for me didn't work, so I'm just going to marry a tree."

And in response to that quote, K just facepalmed.

Fortunes... WoW style

You know those fortune cards that inscriptionists can make, which you can use to make Fortune Cookie but give you a chance to get Fortune Card that you can sell for 5000g? I used to make and eat a lot of fortune cookies before our guild learned our seafood feast because the process of fishing for the pool-less deepsea sagefish was so painful.

Anyways, it was always fun to see what fortune you would get when you ate your fortune cookie. So now I pretty much eat them during random heroics. I got a really sweet one the other day: Fortune Card. Awww. Jess said I should save it. I've gotten others I find quite amusing or thought provoking, such as Fortune Card or Fortune Card.

Our pally tank Chanticleer mentioned one night that we should use the standard practice of adding "in bed" to the end of the fortunes we get. And sure enough, it made some of the fortunes so hilarious!

Fortune Card... in bed. Ok....
Fortune Card... in bed. Oh really?
Fortune Card... in bed. Mmmm...
Fortune Card... in bed. Um...
Fortune Card... in bed. Yikes. Seriously yikes.
Fortune Card... in bed. Hmmm...
Fortune Card... in bed. What?
Fortune Card... in bed. Mmmm...
Fortune Card... in bed. Resto druids baby, resto druids!
Fortune Card... in bed. Oh?
Fortune Card... in bed. Whoa!

Amuse yourself with the full listing for fortune cards on the wowhead.

*Note: You probably need to hover over the links on this post itself to have the wowhead link info pop up. I don't think this works in Reader.

Kill shot reenactment

Hooray, kill shot reenactment! So last week was our second week of raiding, and look there is Halfus with his two headed self and Omnomnom's four man posse. So lets then go around the outside and I can tell you a bit about the guildies.

Starting on the lower left we have Eregon, our conservative Republican of tanks. Continuing clockwise, we have Kalthan our hunter. Kal has two pets out with him, his monkey named Nikolai and his crab named Keredria. Nikolai and I are currently planning our revenge. Then there is Nkm who is bound to be archaeologizing when he isn't raiding.

Next, there is our dark intent couple, Buns and Nikolai. I've put our other mage Darcness on the Deathcharger's Reins from Stratholme because this is my reenactment and it's going to happen Darc, I swear! Then we have our pally tank Chanticleer, aka pretty purple diamond, and look, he haz a frisbee!

Finally lets address the healing druid, pally, and shammy. So in this accurate reenactment, Jess' shammy Makawee and I are running out of mana while our holy pally Lorosia has a full mana bar. Thus, what Makawee and I are doing is what I believe should be added in the next patch. Other healers should be able to siphon mana from holy pallys. For reals.

So I think our raids have started pretty well, though there has not been a single healer drop in two weeks of raiding. FFS! In other guild news, we finally learned the seafood feast last night! Woot! As Nkm said, we pwned those fishies!

That's some serious customer support

So I just posted here, but then I came across this gem that I couldn't resist posting for the second time today. The earlier post is more for my guildies anyway, so some humor for everyone else.

WoW customer support is apparently for more than just WoW related issues:

It makes me wonder if WoW Customer support is just as good at philosophy as they are at calculus. I'm tempted to put in a ticket asking them about the meaning of life or the secret to happiness or something.

How to bring WoW into your every day life

1. Do the real life version of The Bears Up There quest in Hyjal (pic from The Animal Blog):

2. Show your appreciation for Cthulhu, the probable Lovecraft inspiration for our AQ40 boss C'Thun:

3. Practice for the Lawn of the Dead quest to get your sunflower pet (who kind of creeps me out with the way it hums/sings) with your own PvZ lawn ornaments:

Illustrated fail pug stories

Most of the time I've spent so far on my gnome lock (who I totally have an infatuation with... is it weird to have a crush on your toon?) has been doing pvp. She has about as good a pvp set she can have without stepping into arenas. Though this weekend, I spent some time running pugs on Kimchee for badges to gear up her pve gear.

Now K never really did real pugs with the LFG function when it first came out. Her runs were pretty much all guild runs, and if we had to pick someone up via the LFG, it might have been one dps. So yeah, this weekend was probably my first time experiencing the range of pugs you encounter. Let me share some tales with an illustrated commentary.

First, there was the tank who was equipping a lvl 70 weapon from Hyjal. Really buddy, really? Look I don't need a 6000+ gear score tank. I'm all for doing heroics with new level 80 tanks. But come on, come somewhat prepared!

Just because it's purple doesn't mean you should be still equipping it. His total health was around 19k, less than Kimchee's. Then a couple of nightmare pulls later, he hearths saying that oops, he should really train first. Luckily he left soon after saying he had to go because his "mom was trippin'". Fail!

Then, there was the elemental shammy who kept asking for dmg meters after every other pull and gloated that he was on top. I guess he didn't care for the fact that he pulled insane aggro nearly every pull and got himself killed (and pissed off the healer) a couple of times. Fail!

Then there was the dk tank who couldn't hold aggro to save his life. And the 3 dps were really trying to behave! Fonzy told me to check if he was in frost presence. Yep, he was in blood presence. I asked him to switch to frost presence, which he did but then asked why. /sigh

Finally, I couldn't think of an appropriate pug story to go with this pic, but I had to share it because I feel its my duty as a responsible blogger to warn you guys to keep your hands to yourself.

Is this how it is to off tank?

We had a really good week of raiding this past week, after a month or so of up and downs with raiding attendance. This meant we successfully completed 5 ICC hard modes for the first time this past raid week! Woot! It's been really nice actually having loot drop that people really need again. It's also been nice being challenged on bosses prior to LK and recalling how it was when we first saw those bosses in normal.

Part of the reason we've been able to raid successfully lately is because we've had some old friends from Emerald, a guild we've long known, run with us. Last night as we were seeing heroic Blood Queen for the first time, Venezia shared this video from a guild called Kamigami that we just had to watch:

LOL! It was perfect for us last night because we had a feral druid off tanking. I love the elevator music during the clip. But it's also hilarious to look at the madness going on in the background. OMG red line of death! OMG purple cloud of death! OMG bite me before you go insane! OMG scary fear and massive blood bolts! OMG! OMG! OMG! And the bear is just playing bejeweled. Sigh.

Lich King isn't anything...

...compared to kids! Yes, kids.

Let me explain. So about a month ago we had a situation where one of our folks was hacked because he had to temporarily take off the authenticator tied to his account. Why? Well, his son flushed his authenticator down the toilet.

Last night, another of our folks lets us know that her son was playing with her iPhone and continuously entered the wrong password, thus locking her out and requiring a reset. Because the authenticator she uses is on her iPhone, she had issues logging on and staying logged on last night.

You think LK is scary? Maybe Halion with the scary cutters? Hell, apparently we should be more concerned of our guildies' kids as they seem to be more of a threat to our raiding!

Honestly though, I find this all kind of amusing. :)

Blizz art exhibit and murloc hoodies!!!!

Two interesting bits of information recently posted on Kotaku. First, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei will host an art exhibition by Blizzard running from August 20 to October 10. The exhibit, called "The Fights, Flights & Frights - Inside the Storm" will feature 800 paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos from StarCraft, Diablo and WarCraft.

There is so much incredible art produced by Blizz. I think it's neat that it'll be featured in a museum of contemporary art.

Secondly, murlocs. Ok so it may seem that I have a slight fascination of murlocs as exhibited by some past posts. But, check this out. Dinohoodie has created murloc hoodies!!! ZOMG!!!

Ok, ok. I admit it. My name is K and I like murlocs.

Left Claw's Ruby Sanctum pic

Since last week we were too focused on finishing off the Lich King, this week we decided to go pay a visit to a purty purple dragon. Unfortunately I forgot to take a screenshot of this kill, thus I had to recreate the event via a drawing.

If you look at the reenactment drawing closely you'll see:
* a crazy white bear
* a warrior tank who loves to lecture
* a mage with a zoo full of pets and mounts
* a mage with pink bubblegum stuck in his beard
* a shammy bringing the chain and the healz
* a big ass shammy squishing a tiny mechanostrider
* a ret pally never without his coffee
* a dress wearing holy pally boy
* a warlock never without her glass of wine
* and finally to round it out, a tree!

I should really remember to take the screenshots so I don't have to subject you guys to reenactment drawings.

Random Thursday

Couple of random funnies to share this Thursday.

This article below really cracked me up. But its a good reminder to try to find the joy or humor in our little game, even if its the bazillionth daily you've done (do it without a tank!), or the 100th time you've done a certain boss. Musical ICC was a good time for us, I should try to come up with something else to shake things up a bit:

Pajama Forest is a really cute webcomic (archived comics here) that has WoW related comics from time to time:

In this pre-expansion slump, folks are taking breaks from the game as well as leaving guilds. It's important I think to communicate this clearly and fairly. Perhaps this breakup letter can teach us a lesson:

Star Wars Hello Kitty

While I have a number of posts I want to do, they require a bit of time in either researching or just actual writing. I have to be in a certain inspired mood to do those kind of posts. This past weekend was spent watching a lot of World Cup soccer. Waking up on the weekend at 5:15 am kinda made me bleary and useless for the rest of the day. Damn the time difference! And now I get to work and WTF I have stuff I have to get done.

So until I get the time and mood to work on some real posts (hopefully later this week), I shall leave you with the awesomeness and cuteness of Star Wars Hello Kitty. Don't mess with Hello Kitty!

Murlocs are real! And they're Australian!

I was catching up on a number of the random sites and blogs I read, and came across this article. Now remember a while back when I shared the save the murlocs PSA?

Well, get ready for this guys... murlocs are real!

Let's compare that pic to our familiar murlocs:

These handfish are bottom-dwelling marine fish found in the coastal waters of southern Australia and Tasmania. They prefer to walk rather than swim, by using their modified pectoral fins to move around on the sea floor. A couple more pics:

I mean come on, you just put a sword in one fin/hand and throw in a good old fashioned Aaaaarghbbrgl!!!!!, and tell me, do you not see this:

Seriously, who knew murlocs were Australian?!?! Do you think they eat vegemite? Hmmm.... I ask all the Australian bloggers to investigate.
