Apparently I can't keep emails straight

When I started this blog, I created a related email account for keredria at gmail. (Though Shmoo says my email should be keredria@treemail.com Haha). Now, I've set that email account to automatically forward all emails to my personal gmail address so that I don't have to switch back and forth to read them. Sounds like a brilliant time saving plan, right?

Well, it may save time but what happens is that I often forget when I'm reading an email forwarded from the keredria account, that I'm reading it from my personal account. I'm good about initially sending emails from the keredria account, but then when I read responses, 95% of the time I forget and end up replying from my personal account, which then tags that email with my personal email address with my real full name.

I did this 2+ years ago when first trading emails with Jess, which is how Jess found out my full name and my ethnicity (Korean last name). I did this last year with a couple of other bloggers. I've also done this THREE times in just the past couple of days. Though I have a pretty common and widely used name so its not like anyone could find me out that easily. But still, /sigh.

While there's a bit of a facepalm effect, it cracks me up that I've done this as many times as I have. Apparently two separate email addresses is too much for me to keep straight.

I'm not shucking oysters - help!

About a year ago I posted about my noobishness around technology, including the headsets that come with the iPhone. Remember this conversation I shared?

Conversation #1: K and techy sales guy (TSG) in Apple store:
K: So I also want to get a headset thing for my iPhone so I can take calls in the car while I'm driving.
TSG: Um, ok... so you already have an iPhone?
K: Yeah, I got it like 9 months ago.
TSG: So... you want a bluetooth headset?
K: No, I don't need bluetooth, just something I can hook into the iPhone is fine.
TSG:Well here's the headphones it came with.
K: No, I already have those... I just need to be able to talk into something.
TSG: Um... Ms... the headphone that they come with will allow you to talk while driving.
K: Huh?
TSG: Yeah, see this little white rectangle here? Just click it and you can talk into it.
K: What in the?!?! I've had the ability this entire time and didn't know it?
TSG: Um... yeah (/thinks this girl is a total dope). What did you think this little rectangle was for?
K: I don't know... decoration?

Well about a month ago I accidently dropped one of the headphones into a cup of coffee. And apparently as awesome as Apple is, and as much as they are taking over the world, their headphones do not work when one is dropped into a cup of coffee (yeah WTF). So why does this matter? Well, I have always used the headphone/mic thingie that I use with my iPhone as my communication device in WOW. Yep, no separate fancy headset or anything, just the iPhone thingie (technical tech speak FTW).

The set up worked just fine until the little coffee incident, which made one earbud thing not work, subsequently making me feel slightly off kilter. So I went to Apple and bought a new one. I figured that I would be able to just plug this new one in and go about my merry way.

Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case. My guildies are telling me that what they hear from me on a semi-regular, but not constant, basis is a sound akin to shucking oysters or cracking open pistachios. And contrary to guild belief, no I am not shucking oysters while raiding, so this sound has to be coming from these headphones somehow.

This causes comments akin to:

There she goes again, shuck shuck shuck!
Hey, K wants to weigh in (*click *click *click)
What the hell is that?

Which causes me to react with:

Oh for f'sake

For one day I had a small glimmer of hope where I thought I had identified the issue. I thought that perhaps the area where the mic is located (which is more than just decoration!) was brushing up against the zipper of my fleece zip up thingie I wear a lot at home. That perhaps that was the clicking noise everyone else was hearing. But alas, that was not the case because the sound continued when I was wearing something else.

Is anyone else using the iPhone headset on vent? Am I being a total noob for using this (I probably know the answer to this but am asking anyways)? Anyone have any idea what this oyster shucking noise could be? I have never used push to talk, and I really don't want to have to go to that because I like being able to yell out obscenities spontaneously. Its just odd because my last iPhone headset seemed to work just fine without this clicking sound. Anyone have any ideas? Help!

"K of the D'oh"

I think a new title that they should have in game is "of the d'oh". Our hunter Chachi has been ceremoniously named "Chachi of the D'oh" by our oh so witty mage Veloreynn. Hmmm... now I'm sure we could all come up with a ton of options for what you'd need to do to be awarded the "of the d'oh" title. Some recent examples for me?

D'oh story #1: I was logging onto our guild vent one night and just connected without thinking or reading. Oops! I found myself logging into a friend guild of ours, right in the middle of their Ulduar raid because their vent was the last one I had logged in to. Two of their members were like "Hey K, what's up?" To which I responded, "Oops! Wrong vent! Sorry guys, good luck in Ulduar!" and promptly logged off. D'oh.

D'oh story #2: I was doing a guild heroic TOC 5 man and I was noticing how I was having to heal a bit more. I was wondering why the healing seemed a bit harder and why I was running out of mana. Fortunately there were no deaths except for a mage's death or two. Though come on now, let's just be serious here... it is standard practice, no? We say its not a real run until a mage's life is sacrificed and offered up to the gods. Anyways, it was not until we finished the entire place when I switched out of tree form. Jess let it be known that I had healed the entire heroic run with my lance on. D'oh.

Now on a totally un-d'oh story, we did a little alt run through Naxx again where I tanked with my good friend Indigogo who is usually a boomkin. The healers? Male players with tanking mains on their respective healing alts. I think the raid was looking forward to seeing two female players tanking on relatively new specs. I think they were expecting more slip ups or amusement than Indi and I actually provided. We totally rocked, including doing just fine on Razuvious and the Four Horsemen. You think girls can't tank? Well Indi and I have something to say about that: "Rawr!"

Whoa, how'd ya do that?

There are a lot of times in this game where I just plain forget stuff, leaving me feeling very very nub-cakey. Even if I remember what I'm supposed to do or what happens, I usually always forget what things are called. Case in point before some recent boss fight:

K: Isn't this where the boss does that thing and then I have to do something?

Hey, but everyone knew what I was talking about.

So there is this tanky trinket The Black Heart that drops only on normal TOC. I've been helping some tanky friends farm the normal instance to try to get it. Let's look at what happened.

Party leaves instance after finishing normal TOC
Venezia: Ok guys, its reset, lets go back in.
K: Whoa, how'd ya do that?
Party: What?
K: How'd ya reset the instance?
Venezia: This is regular K, you can run and reset normal instances all you want.
K: D'oh! Oh yeah.

I thought Venezia had some super sneaky powers or something. /sigh

Nubcakes

I went through a phase a while ago where my new favorite word was nubcake and I was calling everyone around me a nubcake. In my mind, a nubcake is what you call someone who is clearly acting as a noob, but because they are your friend, you add the cute endearing cake part of it.

Now there are varying levels of nubcakes. Sometimes it can be minor and just a nubcupcake, but on the other end it could be quite substantial and be a big old nub five tier cake with tons of frosting. I've been a nubcupcake, a nubcake, and a nub five tier cake. Let's see some examples.

Last night we decided to finish up a Naxx run that was started to gear up a bunch of alts. We head into the military quarter and start clearing the trash up to Razuvious. We're on the last set of trash before the boss, when we pulled a number of groups so I was having to heal a bit more than normal. So I go to use my trinket, and I see that I can't proc it. Huh? What in the? Oh... I've been healing up to this point in my full pvp gear and my pvp spec. Oops, nubcake.

I shared it with the raid, and they laughed. Now I've also been in an five man or a raid a bit before realizing that I had my fishing hat on. Oops, nubcupcake. A while back we were gearing up alts in a heroic VH run and it wasn't until the third boss that I realized that I was healing the entire time with my fishing pole. Oops, nub five tier cake.

I'm thinking that we may have more of these nubcake moments than others just because you can't see our gear in tree form. I love that when I'm wearing ugly or mismatched gear, but on the other hand if I have pretty gear on, I wish I could see it more. However, nubcakedom is not limited to us trees. Case in point, during the Razuvious fight when Jess was controlling an understudy:

Jess: Heal my guy up! He's almost dead!
K: I am healing him, chill out.
Jess: No, I mean heal my understudy!
K: Um, he's at nearly full health, what are you looking at?
Jess: Oh, I confused his rage bar for his health bar.
Rest of the raid: (much laughter and mockery)

Talk about nub five tier cake!

Finally, a totally un-nubcake related moment. We had our smoothest kill of Thorim this past week. Woot! Now we had been stuck up to Freya in Ulduar but hadn't had the chance to work on her the last two raid weeks. Well this past week we went in and she ended up coming down! The dps worked together so awesomely in coordinating getting down those three adds.

We then took a quick peek and a couple of attempts at Mimiron. The trash and the train ride to Mimiron was fun and different and really cool. I think it'll take us a bit to learn the fight, but its nice to be doing something different. After our two attempts, Suzzy wanted to see what happens when you push the big red button. So she did. And it was scary and firey and dangerous and bad. And we died. But it was funny!
