Its not me, its my class?

So healing... a word derived from the old English word hælan, meaning to make whole, sound, and well. Most of you know that I am doing 10 man healing right now, in Kara and ZA. Well in the last couple of weeks I have had guildies and non-guildie friends make comments to me in the effect of "You're a great healer, you're the elite healer, blah blah blah".

Here's my question. Because of their ability to cast instant heals (lifebloom and rejuv) on a large number of people, doesn't that give resto druids a large leg up in 10 mans? Whereas in 25 mans, where a tank may take a huge amount of damage, I may not have enough big heals? In 10 mans, could the great healing be more just a function of my class, not me?

  1. In Black Temple and Sunwell I spend most of my time as a main tank healers, keeping my HoT's up, but I don't really feel like a primary healer. It's more along the lines of mitigating damage spikes so others can heal.

It's been some time since I've done 10 man content but from what I remember healing there was more fluid. Still a lot of Main tank healing but I was more apt to heal others in a 10 man vs in 25 mans today.

While I prefer the 25 man content over 10 man, I do wish that my healing role was a little bit more like that in 10's.

  2. Your class may have some strengths that help keep multiple players up at once, but it still takes a good healer to know what to do when. Especially in a smaller setting, when it's just you and one or two others. You have to know when to focus on the tank, and when you can throw heals to the rest of the group, when to use your cooldown abilities like Nature's Swiftness or Tranquility. Druids may shine in 10-mans (where you get to do more than just keep Lifebloom stacked) but only if you have the ability to use your class to the fullest ability.

In other words . . . you = awesome, so stop trying to come up with reasons why you're not! :)

  3. @amradorn: It sounds like in 25 mans, I can really watch tv and just put a paperweight on lifebloom like Jess jokes I do now. :)

@nasirah: im still not 100% convinced. really... has anyone seen a druid outhealed in a 10 man?

  4. Well, equally geared and skilled, maybe a druid does have an advantage in 10 mans. But my point was simply that it takes a good player to play their class well.

  5. Thanks Nasirah. I probably should have asked it that way... given equal gear and skill do druids have a leg up in a 10 man? You totally verbalized what I was trying to ask (this tree don't talk so good)!

  6. With all the things in 25's that force you to constantly be moving the paperweight method doesn't work. Take out the movement gimmicks and maybe.

  7. I should clarify that it also really depends on the role your given in the 25 mans. As I said, most of the time I am Main tank healing. If your doing raid healing or group healing it can be a bit more exciting. And this is obviously just from my own personal experience. Others may have experienced differently.

  8. I've found that any class can heal well or badly in 10-mans. I don't think druids have any special advantages. If anything we have a harder time with AoE damage than CoH priests or chain-healing shammies.

    Take credit for your skill!

  9. all healing classes have fights they are better at then others, but it comes down to knowing when to use what and on who. whether its 10 or 25 isnt going to matter too much, it comes down to skill.

you dont just use lifebloom. sure thats all you need most of the time but if a tank is about to die you nature's swiftness and Healing touch to save them. with healing its all those little things you do that seem to not matter but make all the difference.

  10. I regularly out-heal druids in Kara as a Holy Priest. Unfortunately, that's due in large part because none of our other healers use Grid, or Lib-HealComm3. So, there is a TON of overhealing (by all the healers).

So here's another vote for K==teh awesome.

(And nothing at all against resto druids in the first sentence; that's just how it goes in our Kara groups.)

  11. Or Kestrel... maybe it really means that Kestrel = double awesome?
