Another way to level

PC Gamer has a story about Everbloom, a toon that leveled all the way to 85 without killing a single mob or completing quests. The leveling was completed by exploring and professions alone.

Now that is some major patience. He started this feat back in November and says:

"Being on the ground and sneaking around mining and herbing and eventually archaeology, going everywhere to get every single point of discovery xp that you can, really gives you a chance to see an amazing world up close and personal".

I can't see myself ever doing this... but I've got to give him major props! I wondered how many times he might have died trying to explore new areas and mine/herb with possibly getting aggro from higher level mobs. His statistics show that he has died only 25 times.

A forum thread he started is here, as well as his character profile here.

  1. I leveled my priest using only archaeology from 80 to 85. It was insane, and now I can't do much anything due to lack of gear. Although people attempted to get me to do a raid when they misunderstood what I meant by I'm still in level 80 epics. They didn't think I meant every piece except one, or thought I said 85, idk.

I don't think I could stand doing that for the entire 1-85.

  2. @Sakaki: 80-85 from archaeology is pretty impressive as well! Did you get a lot of rares?

I think this just shows that there are many ways to play this game, and to each their own.

  3. That's the only thing about archeology I enjoyed - revisiting old maps and seeing a lot more of the landscape than you usually do with any other activity. I love exploring and have often ignored my map and minimap in the past for this reason too.

  4. @Keredria I got pretty much everything except the useful items I kind of wanted. Staff, trinket, and Puzzle box. And oh, how I tried for that puzzle box. Obviously not hard enough, but it gets really tiring. Someday soon I should get back to it.

  5. I took a druid from 80 to 82 all by mining and herbing. I got too frustrated getting killed by some of the trickier mobs when mining (shifting out of get-away-quick form). So, I started questing for at least lvl 82 gear. Trying to use that toon in dungeons now, I feel like I'm so behind with rep that it isn't funny. Just going through the quests, you get some pretty nice rep rewards. But yeah... can you imagine being in lvl 1 starter gear at 85? Geesh.. the lack of stamina alone would just suck. 42k health on that toon. ROFL!!!!
